Smoke alarms with replaceable batteries should have the batteries changed every six months

A convenient way to remember this is to change the batteries when you change the clocks. While you have the detector down check the manufacture date. Detectors that are ten years or older should be replaced. It is also a good time to check fire extinguishers and review your home fire safety plan.
